Background
The Myanmar Federation of Persons with Disabilities (MFPD), also known as the Myan Council of Persons with Disabilities (MCPD) the mission is to promote the rights and full participation of persons with disabilities through advocacy, education, and awareness-raising.

Myanmar has undergone a period of reform in the past few years, The tights of PWDs are one of the important human rights issues being addressed in the reform process. At present, there are very few laws and policies that promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities. Moreover, practical application of those laws and policies in government and private institutions is very limited, and many challenges exist in promoting and protecting the rights of PWDs in society

Newly elected board members of MFPD (2015-2020 term) committed to lead the advocacy strategy and engagement among DPOs, government institutions, and the community to ensure promoton of the rights of PWDs and create an employment sector for PWDs during their elected term.
We are dedicated to promoting education compliance with United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (UNCRPD) along with National Disability Rights Law.

MFPD's approach is to advance human rights advocacy and civil society efforts focusing on the rights of persons with disabilities. The organization will identify barriers in the education sector, develop advocacy and policy strategies to address them, and position stakeholders to strengthen and expand services to improve the lives of women, men, and children with disabilities across the country. In this connectivity, MFPD is leading a report on CRPD alternative report fully funded by disability rights fund (DRF). Now we are completing data collection phase and hope to finish on July 2017 on alternative development, but still would like to exchange our experince with those who had skills and knowledge on shadow report as Thailand. In fact, we are very keen to learn from Thailand experience on shadow report development such as initial preparation, development procedure and post experience after getting back recommendation from CRPD committee.

Objectives of the trip

•  Extending knowledge edge on CRPD alternative reporting experience
• Building up strong network on CRPD alternative development between Thailand and Myanmar 
• Improving systematic approach and build up concrete strategy to engage with stakeholders
